Quantum of Solace

Quantum of Solace (2008) is the sequel to the 2006 film Casino Royale. It is directed by Marc Forster, and features Daniel Craig's second performance as James Bond. The movie also stars Mathieu Amalric and Olga Kurylenko. Seeking revenge for the death of his love, secret agent James Bond sets out to stop an environmentalist from taking control of a country's water supply.

Betrayed by Vesper, the woman he loved, 007 is determined to uncover the truth. He and M interrogate Mr. White who reveals the organization which blackmailed Vesper is far more complex and dangerous than anyone had imagined. Forensic intelligence links an MI6 traitor to a bank account in Haiti where Bond encounters the beautiful but feisty Camille (Olga Kurylenko), and she leads him to Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric), a ruthless business man and major force within the mysterious organization. On a mission that leads him to Austria, Italy and South America, Bond discovers that Greene, conspiring to take total control of one of the world's most important natural resources, is forging a deal with the exiled General Medrano. Using his associates in the organization, and manipulating his powerful contacts within the CIA and the British government, Greene promises to overthrow the existing regime in a Latin American country, giving the General control of the country in exchange for a seemingly barren piece of land. As Bond gets closer to finding the man responsible for betraying Vesper, he must keep one step ahead of the CIA, the terrorists and even M, to unravel Greene's sinister plan and stop his organization.

This movie is filled with action packed scenes from start to finish. The storyline moves at a quick pace and is kind of hard to keep up with. Despite this the movie certainly did not dissapoint me, although I was expecting more from it. According to me Casino Royale was better than this one. I'd say that this movie is must watch if you're a James Bond fan.

Babylon A.D.

Babylon A.D. is a 2008 science fiction thriller film based on the novel Babylon Babies. The film was directed by Mathieu Kassovitz and stars Vin Diesel, Mélanie Thierry and Michelle Yeoh.In the near future, Toorop is a mercenary who takes the job of escorting a woman named Aurora from Central Asia to New York. While he thinks this is just an ordinary mission, he gradually finds out that his guest is carrying twins that have the potential to become the next Messiahs - and everybody wants to get their hands on them.

It is the not-too-distant future. It is a world made for hardened warriors, one of whom, a mercenary known only as Toorop (Vin Diesel), lives by a simple survivor's code: kill or be killed. His latest assignment has him smuggling a young woman named Aurora (Mélanie Thierry) from a convent in Kazakhstan to New York City. Toorop, his new young charge Aurora and Aurora's guardian Sister Rebeka (Michelle Yeoh) embark on a 6,000-mile journey that takes them from Eastern Europe, through a refugee camp in "New Russia," across the Bering Straight in a pilfered submarine, then through the frozen tundra of Alaska and Canada, and finally to New York. Facing obstacles at every turn, Toorop, the killer for hire, is tested like never before, in ways he could never have imagined--as he comes to understand that he is the custodian of the only hope for the future of mankind. For the first time in his life, Toorop has to make a choice: to make a difference or walk away and save himself. Too bad it came on the day he died.

From the trailers this movie did look like it would be brilliant, however it was not so. The action scenes were amazing and the movie moved on at a decent pace. However the reception of this movie was poor. It recieved harsh criticism and even the director was not happy with it. According to me, the first of the movie was good but soon after that the movie lost it's way and I did not like the ending at all. To sum it up, I'd say that this movie is watchable but don't expect too much

Hellboy II: The Golden Army

Hellboy II: The Golden Army is a 2008 science fiction-superhero film based on the fictional Dark Horse Comics character Hellboy. The movie is a sequel to the 2004 film Hellboy, the director for both being Guillermo Del Toro. Ron Perlman reprises his role as the titular character. The movie is about the rebellion of the ambitious Prince Nuada against humanity in order to rule the Earth.

In 1955, a young Hellboy is told a story by his father involving an ancient battle between humans and mythical creatures. A goblin blacksmith built an indestructible clockwork army for Balor, the King of the Elves, which could only be controlled by those of royal blood, provided no one challenged their right to do so. This 'Golden Army' of 4900 soldiers or "70 times 70 soldiers", devastated the humans so mercilessly that Balor forged a truce with them to stop the bloodshed: man would keep his cities and the creatures would keep their forests. Balor's son, Prince Nuada, didn't agree with the truce, and left in exile, vowing to return when he was needed. The crown controlling the army was broken into three pieces, one piece going to the humans and the other two kept by the elves, so the Golden Army could never be raised again.

In the present, Prince Nuada decides to declare war against the humans wanting to regain his people's lost status. In order to do so, it would require him to collect the three pieces of the crown which controlled the Golden Army. Meanwhile Hellboy and his team stumble upon Princess Nuala who is carrying one of the pieces of the crown along with the map that leads to the Golden Army. With Prince Nuada's determination, the fate of Earth lies in the hands of Hellboy.

The movie is filled with action packed scenes and slapstick comedy. Like the previous movie, I didn't really fancy this one. Though I have to agree that the action scenes were brilliantly done, but other than that nothing really caught my attention. I agree that from the trailers, the movie looks terrific, but I certainly don't recommend it because it turned out to be quite a disappointment for me.

Rock On!!

Rock On!! is a 2008 Bollywood film which released a little over a month ago. Directected by Abhishek Kapoor, the movie stars Arjun Rampal and debutantes Farhan Akhtar and Prachi Desai along with Luke Kenny, Purab Kohli, Koel Purie, Shahana Goswami and Nicolette Bird. The movie is about the reunion of 4 ex-band members in their attempt to relive their glory days as a band.

The plot moves back and forth in time as we learn what Aditya (Farhan Akhtar), Joe (Arjun Rampal), Rob (Luke Kenny) and K.D. (Purab Kohli) do, and did 10 years ago. 1o years ago the 4 youths were part of a successful band named 'Magik'. The 4 of them were living happy and care-free lives. By winning a concert they had gotten their ticket to success. However due to a rise in differences between Aditya and Joe, the band split, causing the 4 youths to go their seperate ways. By now, each of them lead very different lives and all of them are unhappy with their current situations. Fate causes Aditya's wife to meet KD and after some initial awkwardness and hesitation, the four set off again, from where they left, with the goal of rekindling the magic between them.

'Rock On' is truly a sincere and commendable effort to tell a different story. Unlike other Bollywood movies, it is true to life and very identifiable. The music is good but very simple which has caused it to recieve severe criticism. I really liked the movie and I found it to be quite inspiring. This movie is certainly not a waste of time and if you enjoy Hindi rock music, you just might like this one.

Wanted

Wanted is a 2008 action film which is based on the comic of the same name. Directed by Timur Bekmambetov, it stars James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie. It tells the tale of a frustrated office worker's transformation into a superhuman assassin.

Wesley Gibson (James McAvoy) is a frustrated and depressed office worker who works at a dead-end job. He is constantly chewed up by his boss and ignored by his girlfriend, who incidently is sleeping with his best friend. In short Wesley was living a pathetic and pointless life. However, one day his fortunes turn when he meets a woman named Fox (Angelina Jolie) who tells him that his father was one of the greatest assassins in the world and that he had been killed the day before. Wesley does not believe this at first, but soon finds himself bieng trained in the organization his father used to work for known as The Fraternity. The Fraternity, headed by a man named Sloan (Morgan Freeman), is an organization which had the responsibility of keeping justice in the world. Wesley's main aim of joining the organization was to kill his father's assassin. However as the movie unfolds Wesley finds out that all is not what it appears to be and that the truth about his father has been completely manipulated and twisted around by none other than Sloan himself!!

Despite all the negative reviews I heard about this movie plus the far-fetched concept of curving bullets, I still genuinley enjoyed watching it. The entire movie is filled with adrenaline pumping action and I have to say that Angelina Jolie was looking bloody amazing. If you are plannig to watch this movie, I suggest you leave your scientific knowledge outside and just sit back and enjoy this crackling thrill ride.

Hancock

Hancock is a superhero film directed by Peter Berg, starring Will Smith, Jason Bateman and Charlize Theron, which released earlier this year. Based in Los Angeles, it tells the story of a vigilante superhero, Hancock, who gets the job done, but in quite a reckless manner which causes the public to turn against him. Hancock isn’t the kind of guy who cares what other people think, until the day he saves the life of PR executive Ray Embrey, and the sardonic superhero begins to realize that he may have a vulnerable side after all.

John Hancock (Will Smith) is an alcoholic with superhuman powers. Though he uses his powers to fight crime, his reckless attitude inadvertently causes millions of dollars of property damage. Due to this the public has had enough of Hancock and start to resent him. Then one day, Hancock saves the life of Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman) from being run over by a train. Ray is a public relations executive who, out of gratitude, offers to change Hancock's public image. Ray's wife, Mary (Charlize Theron), believes that Hancock cannot be fixed, and she doesn't want Ray to be hurt. However, later on we find out that her reasons for wanting Hancock out of her and her husband's lives are more self-centered than out of concern for Ray.

This movie has a not so homogeneous blend of genres ranging from action to comedy to romance, if you get what I mean. However, I'd certainly not say that this movie is bad one. I think the only reason it got mixed reactions from people was because the story is a completely different concept which has never been portrayed before. One way in which this movie is a must-watch is probably because of Will Smith. He has yet again pulled off a superb performance and according to me is overdue for an Oscar. This movie is an excellent way to kill time and I'd recommend it to Will Smith fans.

Memento

Memento was arguably one of the best movies of 2000. Directed by Christopher Nolan, starring Guy Pearce, the movie revolves around the story of a man, suffering from short-term memory loss, trying to avenge the death of his wife.
Leonard Shelby (Guy Pearce) is a former insurance investigator who suffers from short term memory loss, a condition he acquired during the murder of his wife. Since then he has been unable to remember anything for longer than a few minutes. His last memory was watching his wife die. He sets out to avenge his wife, using scribbled notes, Polaroid photos, and information tattooed onto his skin to maintain that thread of memory.
This is a complex story to understand as one story line movies forward in time(in black&white) while the other tells the story backwards (in colour). Both the colour and black&white scenes are alternately interspersed throughout the movie in a set pattern. This is done by director Christopher Nolan and his crew in order to confuse and bewilder the audience. He states it is to put the viewer in the shoes of Memento's protagonist Leonard and experience what he is going through. He crafts the film such that new bits and pieces of information are given out with each color and black&white scene until their time lines meet.
Throughout the movie Leonard talks about a man named Sammy Jankis, an ex client of his who was believed to have the same condition as Leonard. However by the end of the movie you will find out that Leonard and Sammy a lot more in common and also why Leonard has gotten himself into a vicious circle which he never may be able to get out of!!
A racy thriller, Memento is sure to keep you on the edge of your seats. The movie isn't the easiest one to understand and plays tricks with your brains but take it from me....This one's worth it.

The Bank Job

'The Bank Job' is a real story based on the 1971 London vault cleanout on Baker Street. A confusing beginning to the movie sees the introduction of the central characters. However, the movie quickly moves straight to the plot without wasting anytime. The highly-charged heist thriller tightly interweaves high-level corruption, murder and sexual scandal in 1970s England.
Jason Statham stars as a car-dealer, Terry ,who recognises the opportunity of a lifetime when an old friend of his, Martine (Saffron Burrows), offers him a job to rob the Lloyd's Bank on London's Baker Street. The plan targeted a room with safe deposit boxes worth millions. What Terry and his crew don't realise is that some boxes also contained a collection of dirty secrets which would thrust them into the world of corruption and scandals which involved the Royal Family itself!!!
The movie is a serious thriller which keeps you on the edge of your seat at all times. It's about 2 hours long. If you are going to watch it be prepared for a lot of vulgarity. The movie is brilliantly directed and hats off to the actors. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this movie and I highly recommend it.

Batman: The Dark Knight

This is one movie which you absolutely cannot miss. It's a freakin' brilliant movie. Christian Bale and Heath Ledger have done a brilliant job. I think this is the first Batman movie which I've actually liked. The previous movie was good but this one ten times better. The make-up of joker and Two-face is amazing and it looks very realistic. Batman himself looks amazing and his gadgets are also bloody sexy. The special effects have also been done very well. I think every aspect of the movie is perfect and every single detail has been given attention to. It's 2 and a half hours of extreme thrill and excitement.

Love Story 2050

Hey people, I saw Love Story 2050 last night. It's actually quite a good movie and to hell with what the reviews say. An interesting story and some decent acting, except for a couple of squeaks by Harman. Some of the songs were totally avoidable-but then we'd have missed out on the awesome dancing by Harman. - his dancing was bloody amazing and how, guys. The second half is based in the future and the graphics are to kill for. A 3 hour long movie-definitely not a waste of time -do go check it out.
